In Harmony Pediatric Therapy was established to meet the growing needs of families and individuals with special needs in our community. It is a collaboration from the owners of Rising Stars Children’s Therapy, Inc, Therabeat, Inc, and Grow With Me Pediatric Physical Therapy, Inc working “in harmony” to provide quality skilled services in a clinic environment.
Objectives:
- Support families at their current level of need, and guide them towards their future developmental goals
- Assist with community resources
- Provide exceptional occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, music therapy, and group experiences
- Offer opportunities for children of all abilities to interact together

Kristi graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy in 2000 and has been practicing in the area of pediatrics since that time, with experience in both the home and clinic environments.
Through these different experiences with a wide array of ages and diagnoses, Kristi has developed an expertise in working with children with feeding issues, sensory integration dysfunction, developmental delay, and autism. Additional training has been completed with the SOS Approach to Feeding, oral motor strategies, Handwriting without Tears, and overall sensory integration techniques.
Kristi was very excited to have the opportunity to open a pediatric therapy facility as this has been a long time dream. Bringing such an amazing resource to the Canton area has been very fullfilling. |

Kim has a bachelor degree in Psychology from Occidental College , and received her graduate education in Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California in 1980. Kim trained directly with Dr. A. Jean Ayres in sensory integrative therapy, and is certified in the Southern California Sensory Integration Tests and the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests. She also is trained in the Therapeutic Listening Program and Handwriting Without Tears. In addition, Kim is a Certified Natural Health Professional and has worked throughout her career in pediatric private practices in southern California, eventually relocating to the Canton area. She specializes in working with children with sensory processing disorders, developmental delay, attention deficits, and autism. She has 2 grown children and loves gardening, reading, and sewing. |

Laura graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and from Shenandoah University with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. She has worked exclusively in pediatrics for over a decade with a specialty in sensory integration and sensory feeding. Laura has worked in a variety of settings to include a children’s hospital, several private practices, a private school, and the public school system. She has participated in a wide array of continuing education over the years to include Therapeutic Listening, Handwriting Without Tears, sensory integration techniques, and visual deficits. She has enjoyed running a variety of therapeutic groups and camps over the years. Laura loves her husband, her children, her dog, scrapbooking/crafting, organizing anything, reading, and jet skiing. |

As a sophomore at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Paten began working as an Occupational Therapy Technician at Rehabilitation Services of Tifton. After graduating with an Associate degree in Allied Health Sciences, he moved to Augusta and began working on his Master's at the Medical College of Georgia. During his two years there he was exposed to a variety of learning opportunities and practice areas. Paten also served as the Georgia Occupational Therapy Association's student representative for his program. While completing his program he worked in Columbia, SC at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital and at All About Kids Therapy Services in Lawrenceville, GA. In 2011, upon successful completion of both fieldworks, he graduated with honors with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy. As a new graduate, he plans to continue growing as a practitioner and advancing his skills in the area of Pediatric Occupational Therapy. Outside of work Paten enjoys playing tennis, golf and spending time with his family and friends.

Amy has a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Brenau University. She has a variety of pediatric experience working in multiple settings including school system, home health, and private practice. Amy specializes in working with children with developmental delay, autism, motor coordination difficulties, and sensory processing disorders. Amy has experience working with children on handwriting and is trained in Handwriting Without Tears. She enjoys using a Floortime approach while attending to children’s individual sensory needs.
Amy loves spending time with her husband and two children. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and sewing for her daughters. |

Sharilyn moved from south Florida to Forsyth County , Georgia in the summer of 2007. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University in Florida with a Masters degree in speech and language pathology. She has been working with the pediatric population since 1995. Prior to joining Rising Stars Children's Therapy, Sharilyn worked in many different settings, including a private clinic, a developmental preschool, in an elementary program with autistic children, and did some home health. She specializes in global speech delays, articulation, apraxia, autism, oral motor skills, and works with children with a variety of diagnoses. When not working, Sharilyn spends time with husband and their two children, and enjoys hiking in the mountains, cooking, and volunteering with Cub Scouts and in her children's school. |

Kathy earned her degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has worked as a speech/language therapist in a school system and as a developmental specialist in a neonatal intensive care unit and developmental follow-up program in a metropolitan hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She owned a private practice in Pittsburgh for over twenty years, specializing in treating high risk children with communication disorders and those with autism and autism spectrum disorders. Ms. Brunner relocated to Georgia in July of 2004 and splits her time working in an outpatient pediatric practice and doing home treatment for infants and toddlers. Ms. Brunner has given workshops across the country training individuals to use Melodic/Multi-Phonemic Intervention which she has developed and used with success for many non-verbal and low verbal individuals.
Kathy specializes in treating individuals with developmental delay including autism, PDD, genetic disorders, auditory processing, and apraxia, and individuals with a range of oral motor and feeding disorders.
She is a member of the ASHA, and has presented at Autism One conferences, as well as the Georgia Speech, Language and Hearing Association conferences. |

Lori earned her undergraduate degree in Special Education from Winthrop University. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina, where she completed a specialization in Auditory-Verbal Therapy for children with hearing impairments. Lori began her career working for the Fulton County School System for a diverse population of children ranging in age from 4 - 21. Since then, she has worked in a variety of settings including preschools, private schools, and home health. When not at work, Lori enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. |

Melissa graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. She then went on to receive her Master's in Education from Valdosta State University. She is currently pursuing her Education Specialist degree from Valdosta State University. Since earning her Master's, Melissa has worked full time at an elementary school in Cobb County. She has also worked as a speech therapist in the home health setting. Melissa is married with two 'fur-children'. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, traveling, working in the yard, and spending time with friends and family. |

Stephanie moved from New York to South Carolina after graduating from Elmira College with a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing. She then graduated from The University of South Carolina at Columbia in 2007 with a Master’s in Speech Pathology. Prior to joining the Rising Stars Children’s Therapy team in 2011, Stephanie worked in an elementary school in Cobb County. She has worked with children on articulation, expressive and receptive language, and fluency disorders. Along with these she has worked with autism spectrum disorders, auditory-verbal therapy and a variety of other diagnoses.
When not working, Stephanie enjoys traveling, learning to cook and spending time with friends and family. |

Kelly Hidalgo, MS, PT graduated from Georgia State University in 2001 with a Masters degree in physical therapy. She has worked solely in pediatrics in the clinic and home environments. Kelly has taken continuing education in torticollis, NDT, infant massage, and serial casting. She works with a variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, mitochondrial disorder, autism, and torticollis. Kelly is married with two children, in her off time she enjoys spending time with friends and family and a good movie! |

She then went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the Medical College of Georgia. In her free time, she enjoys scrapbooking, shopping, movies, and being with friends and family. |

Denise Young is a 1991 graduate from the University of Vermont with a bachelors degree in physical therapy. After graduation she moved south and practiced for three years in an adult rehabilitation hospital working with patients with neurological impairments. In 1994 Denise began working as a pediatric physical therapist. Over the past 17 years she has worked in a variety of pediatric settings; acute care hospital, outpatient clinic, schools, home based early intervention, and aquatics in North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia. She lives in Roswell with her husband and daughter. |

Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia. She then went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Georgia State University. Katie completed her DPT research in gross motor skill developmental playgroups for young children with Down syndrome. As a new graduate, she plans to advance her skills in the area of Pediatric Physical Therapy and later go on to get her Pediatric Specialist Certification. In her free time, Katie enjoys Georgia football, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends… and with her black lab Marley!

Carrie grew up in Cherokee County and has remained active in the community over the years. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science and is a BIG Georgia Bulldog fan! She went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from North Georgia College and State University. She currently works in both pediatrics and women’s health. She is married and has one beautiful dog. In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time with her family and friends. |

Jennifer completed her music therapy degree at the University of Georgia. She remained in the Atlanta area for her music therapy internship with the Fulton County School System, working with children with special needs. She is a licensed Kindermusik® educator and is a member of the Music Therapy Association of Georgia, American Music Therapy Association, Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, and FOCUS (Families of Children Under Stress). She holds national board certification in music therapy, is a credentialed Neurological Music Therapist, is a credentialed Early Intervention Specialist, is certified in the Therapeutic Listening Program, and has been trained in Infant Massage. Jennifer serves as Secretary and Reimbursement Chair of the SER-AMTA (Southeastern Region - American Music Therapy Association). Jennifer has been active in her community and church serving as choir director, drama director, and other positions in the music ministry. Jennifer resides in Cherokee County with her husband Brian, and their daughters Carlynn Grace and Brinlee Ann. Jennifer is the Owner of Therabeat, Inc and Co-Owner of In Harmony Pediatric Therapy. |

Jessica Ann Pitts is an avid Jayhawk fan having received her Bachelor of Music Education degree with a major in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas in 2010. As a national board-certified Music Therapist, Jessica currently works for Therabeat, Inc. at In Harmony Pediatric Therapy in Canton, GA. She is an active member of the American Music Therapy Association and the Music Therapy Association of Georgia. Jessica moved from the Midwest to Atlanta to complete her music therapy internship with children with special needs in the Fulton County School System during 2009-2010 school year. In May of 2009, Jessica received the E. Thayer Gaston Music Therapy award. Jessica is a licensed Kindermusik educator. Jessica resides in Roswell, GA with her husband Kevin and their black cat, Casanova Marshall.

David Symons has dedicated all of his adult life to sharing the joys of music with children of all ages. He currently holds three degrees (a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Brewton-Parker College, as well as a Master of Music Therapy degree and a Specialist in Music Education degree from the University of Georgia), and is certified as both a Music Educator and as a Music Therapist. David is also classically trained as a concert pianist, having over 15 years of experience as a performer in both concert and clinical environments. David comes to Therabeat, Inc. from Evans, Georgia, where he owned and operated his own pediatric therapy private practice. In addition to his work with individual clients at Therabeat, David teaches a wide array of Kindermusik classes, including Village, Our Time, Imagine That, Young Child, Sign & Sing, and Family Time.

Chelsea Farr is currently completing her music therapy internship with the Fulton County School System, working with children with special needs ranging in age from elementary school to high school. Chelsea received her Bachelor degree in Music Therapy from the University of Georgia. She is a licensed Kindermusik Educator and is a member of the American Music Therapy Association as well as the Music Therapy Association of Georgia. She interned as a music therapy student with Jennifer Puckett at the clinic during the summer of 2010. She has worked with the Hugh Hodgson School of Music Community Music School at the University of Georgia leading group music therapy sessions with children with developmental disorders ranging from ages six to sixteen. After the completion of her internship, she will become a board-certified music therapist with the intention of working with pediatrics in the clinical setting. Chelsea is a very talented singer who is called to share the healing work of music with the lives of others.

Alison Williams hails from the Mississippi Delta where she received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS. She also received her Masters of Music Education with concentration in Music Therapy from the University of Georgia in December of 2010. Alison first came to us as an intern and is now an official member of our staff as a music therapist. She is a licensed music educator who loves working with children. Her goal is to become a board-certified music therapist as well as a credentialed early intervention specialist. Alison is a gifted singer who believes that her mission in life is to share the gift of music with others.

Lydia is currently completing her Music Therapy internship at Therabeat, Inc. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC. Having taught piano and violin lessons for seven years, she is excited to gain experience in adaptive music lessons. During her undergraduate career, she worked with pediatrics in various clinical school settings. These experiences gave her a passion for working with children and helping them reach their full potential. In her free time, Lydia enjoys being outdoors, exercising and spending time with family and friends.

Originally from San Francisco, Janie graduated from Augusta College with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After retiring from a life-long career in the IT field, involving the design, implementation and support of local area networks both domestically and internationally, in 2008 she chose to combine her love for horses and children by volunteering at various facilities doing hippotherapy with special needs children. She was thrilled when the opportunity arose to join the In Harmony family in 2011 as Office Manager. Janie lives in Ball Ground with her horses, dogs and various assortment of critters. She has a grown daughter and identical twin grandsons. On weekends, she loves spending time with family and friends, scuba diving, camping and exploring the North Georgia countryside on horseback.

Allison arrived in Atlanta 13 years ago after growing up in San Francisco and earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Indiana University. After 10+ years of marketing children’s toys and products under brand names such as Cartoon Network and Baby Einstein, she realized that her heart was seeking to do more for children with special needs and their families. Allison comes to us after spending over 2 years at a private clinic in Sandy Springs working as a therapy assistant and managing their Fast ForWord program, a computer based alternative cognitive therapy for children with various developmental and learning disabilities. She is very excited about the opportunity to work at Rising Stars Children’s Therapy to get to know the clients and their families so that she can help children continue to grow and thrive through their therapeutic activities. When Allison’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband Jonathan, her dog Kozmo and cat Mattie, and loves to travel, browse art festivals, photograph nature, and is always up for some “retail therapy.”

Kimmy Yon is delighted to be the clinic manager and help In Harmony grow! She splits her time between billing, advertising and marketing for the clinic. She is a graduate of Hollins University in Roanoke, VA, and has a background in theatre arts. She comes to the clinic with extensive experience in non-profit development and communications specifically for organizations championing children and adults with disabilities. A native of Marietta, Kimmy enjoys making jewelry, cooking, watching movies and spending time with her son. |
