Aquatic physical therapy
build strength, improve coordination and make waves toward new milestones!
Pediatric aquatic therapy uses the natural properties of water to help children improve their strength, balance, coordination, and endurance in a fun, supportive environment.
Aquatic therapy may be especially beneficial for children who have low muscle tone, coordination difficulties, decreased endurance, or delayed developmental milestones and are working on walking skills. The buoyancy of water provides support to help children move with greater ease, while the water’s resistance provides opportunities to strengthen muscles and improve motor control.
Aquatic therapy may also help children with increased muscle tone (spasticity) and support reflex integration through purposeful movement and therapeutic activities in the water.
Benefits of Pediatric Aquatic Therapy include:
Improving muscle strength and postural control
Enhancing balance, coordination, and motor planning
Building endurance for functional mobility and walking
Providing supported opportunities to practice movement
Helping manage increased muscle tone and support reflex integration
